Red Square was appointed to completely refurbish and modernise this Grade 2 listed mews house in Holland Park. The main challenge was to increase floor to ceiling heights in the rear ground floor space without excavating below existing foundations and improve levels of natural light.
Red Square provided a full design & build service; this included planning (working in partnership with English Heritage), structural engineering, concept & detail design, bespoke furniture, project management and construction.
The clients’ key objectives were:
- ‘Feature staircase’ to introduce a ‘wow’ factor and also help to improve the ingress of natural light to the rear ground and first floor space.
- Contemporary space using natural materials.
- Increase rear ground floor to ceiling height; existing was only 1900mm and was altered to 2300mm.
- Introduction of intelligent lighting (lutron) and audio visual.
- Create a property with two bedrooms with en suite bathrooms.
- Under floor heating to remove the need for radiators and allow better use of the available space.
- Media wall that conceals the plasma television when not in use.
